Ignaas Caryn, Director of Corporate Venturing and Biofuels at KLM

  • Ignaas Caryn has set up and leads the corporate venturing and biofuel activities within KLM. These activities include a multi-corporate venture fund, the Mainport Innovation Fund.

    The investment focus areas include sustainable aviation, smart mobility and connectivity and security. The fund currently has eight portfolio companies. Ignaas is currently working on the creation of a second venturing fund.

    Ignaas is also responsible for KLM’s biofuel strategy and its engagement in value chain development. He was involved in the creation of, and still works closely together with, SkyNRG, a new venture focused on the development of a sustainable biojet fuel market.

    In 2013, he was highly engaged in the launch of the Sustainable Bio Award winning ‘Bioport Holland’ initiative.

    Currently he works on setting up a sustainable chemicals and fuels fund with Emerald Technology Ventures.

    Previously, Ignaas held several positions in Sales, Revenue Management, ICT, Marketing and Corporate Strategy. He worked at Citigroup and Kardex before joining KLM.

    Ignaas holds a Master degree in Economics from Gent University and University of Poitiers. He also holds an MBA from Vlerick Business School.
